Netscape 8 Released

Well it looks like AOL has finally dropped a new Netscape. Thankfully, this one is based off of Firefox 1.0, so it should render great and be pretty stable. I haven't downloaded it yet, so if you've played with it or know of any known issues not currently in their release notes, let me know how it goes.

I think you may save yourself from trying it. If you've gone to love Firefox, do you think you want another Firefox with the same rendering engine, with tabbed browsing but, no extension/theme supported. Another words, do you want a light-weight Firefox with a Netscape theme?

Nope, you won't catch me using it. But it's another browser that will have to be considered unfortunately...

The big feature of Netscape 8.0 in my opinion is the fact that it includes both the IE and Gekko rendering engines. You can switch rendering engines on the fly and create a site list with the ability to assign a default rendering engine so that on return visits the sites on that list render with the engine you assigned as the default. Pretty bold move for AOL.

I hadn't seen that feature, but I'll definitely have to check it out. Thanks for the tip.
