I'm sore today... I spent all day yesterday painting pretty much (besides the 2 hours I spent at CIDA updating software). I got about 3/4 of the way done with the patter on the far wall of the office. I'll probably get it almost complete this evening. Because of the orange peel texture on our walls, each line has to be taped and painted at least twice. For those of you venturing into painting orange peel textured walls, here's the trick:
- Tape off the inside of the line
- Paint your inside color up to and on top of the tape
- Let it dry and then peel the tape
- Tape off the outside of the line, right on top of the first paint line
- Paint the inside color over the top of the outside of this tape line. This will fill in the gaps under the tape from the texture. The gaps will now be filled with the inside color. Lay it one thick to make sure you fill up all the gaps.
- Paint the outside color over the paint you just laid down
- Peel the tape
Tada! A perfectly straight line on textured walls. It's a pain, but the end result is worth it. I'll have photos of the entire process up in a day or two.
Considering the complicated pattern I'm painting, it's slow going, and I've already used up an entire roll of tape :)
